The Kamuela Philharmonic journeys through the rich musical traditions of Russia with a program spanning sweeping orchestral drama, lyrical beauty, folk-inspired melodies, and one of the most celebrated piano concertos ever written.

The concert opens with the exhilarating Overture to Glinka’s Ruslan and Lyudmila before moving through the lush beauty of Borodin’s Nocturne and the colorful folk traditions of Liadov’s Eight Russian Folk Songs.

Then acclaimed pianist Lorraine Min joins the Philharmonic for Rachmaninoff’s magnificent Piano Concerto No. 2 in C minor. Overflowing with soaring melodies, emotional intensity, and dazzling pianism, the concerto stands among the defining works of the Romantic repertoire.

From its electrifying opening to Rachmaninoff’s unforgettable finale, Glorious Expressions from Russia is an afternoon of music on a grand scale.
