Fresh from their September 2025 win at the prestigious Banff International String Quartet Competition, Poiesis Quartet arrives at Kahilu Theatre at the height of their international acclaim. It is an honor to host them so soon after this career-defining achievement.
Emerging as one of the most exciting young ensembles in the chamber music world, the award-winning Poiesis Quartet brings bold programming, refined artistry, and emotional depth to the stage. Known for their “extraordinary, honeyed group sound” and magnetic presence, Poiesis delivers performances that are both intellectually rich and deeply moving.
Already winners of the 2023 Grand Prize at the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition, the 2024 Louis & Susan Meisel Competition, and the 2023 St. Paul String Quartet Competition, Poiesis has quickly gained both national and international recognition. Hailed as an “ensemble to watch” by the Hyde Park Herald, they have firmly established themselves as rising stars in the chamber music world.
They are joined by Abe Lagrimas Jr., a multi-instrumentalist, composer, and Nā Hōkū Hanohano Award–winning ukulele artist. A Berklee College of Music graduate and finalist in the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Drums Competition, Abe has collaborated with a wide range of artists from Kamasi Washington to Jake Shimabukuro. Based in Honolulu, he is celebrated for his versatility on drums, vibraphone, and ukulele, and for bringing a unique voice to every stage he performs on.
