Description:
New this year! The Waimea Youth Chorus invites middle and high school students to develop their voices, grow their musical confidence, and experience the joy of choral singing in a supportive ensemble environment. Under the direction of Mario Flores, students will learn foundational vocal technique, harmony singing, stage presence, and ensemble skills through a diverse repertoire. Rehearsals take place weekly, culminating in a spring performance in May. This program is designed to build community, celebrate creativity, and give young singers a fun, inspiring place to belong.

This once-a-month, four hour acting and musical theatre class is taught by Beth Dunnington, the director of the Kahilu Youth Troupe. This is a comprehensive method acting class that includes monologue work (contemporary and classical), musical theatre songs, theatre games, and thought-provoking improvisation. Now in its fifteenth year at Kahilu, this class teaches acting as a craft; students learn how to approach an acting role and/or a song in a process that’s fun, challenging, and collaborative. Ohana is invited to the final class to watch students perform the pieces they’ve been working on during the semester.

An advanced trapeze class for students with three or more years of experience, this course prepares dancers for the Prince Dance spring performance through focused technique, choreography, and stage readiness. Students will continue building strength and control while learning technical poses, transitions, and dynamic flying movements such as spinning, swinging, and wide circles. The class emphasizes musicality, performance quality, and expressive interpretation. Students will explore partner work and develop individual choreography, contributing to polished pieces designed for the upcoming spring production.

Advanced Performance Silks elevates your training in a choreography-driven class designed for students ready to move beyond foundational skills. Building on Level 1/2 technique, this course introduces more demanding climbs, foot-locks, hip keys, and fluid sequencing that progresses from floor work into the air. Students will strengthen control, artistry, and stage presence while learning refined phrases created specifically for the Prince Dance spring production. Expect a faster pace, more complex transitions, and an increased technical challenge as you prepare polished choreography for performance.
